Sea lavender

Every summer, we vacation down the shore in Cape May. It is a beautiful area, with wide beaches, Victorian homes, and plenty of activities for the kids. We recently started going on bird watching trips along the salt marshes that line the short. This past August, our tour guide pulled his flat-bottomed boat right up onto a marsh, and let us step out carefully (very carefully) onto the marsh to examine the plants that grow there. While it looks like you’d sink right in, the land is surprisingly strong. While there, I picked this sprig of sea lavender for my wife. The flowers are tiny, only a couple millimeters wide, but full of color and surprising depth.
