Late last fall, my daughter brought a dried, nondescript leaf into my studio and said: "You should make art with this — or let me step on it. It looks like it'd make a good crunch." Challenge accepted!
To my surprise, I ended up working with that little leaf for several weeks. I found a wealth of personality in its fragile form, including an unexpected core of strength and solidity.
(We never did discover how well it’d crunch.)
