Take a number

by     /    May 31, 2006

You have to applaud this guy for originality. We’ve all seen art as performance. Now witness art as web business. He paints 1000 small canvases, each with a number from 1 to 1000. He then sets up a website to sell them, using a simple formula to assign value (the lower the number the greater its worth), and create the feeling of urgency (the more that sell, the higher the prices go). And if the darn thing doesn’t just take off, getting mentioned in Boing Boing, Seth Godin’s blog, and other places. Hope he does well. What’ll be his encore? Kanji?

He’s got a great concept. It reminds me of the 2000 Bricks project, which is also starting to get some buzz.

It reminds me Andy Warhal somehow:)
