Success

by     /    September 18, 2013

Just as failure shouldn’t be feared, success shouldn’t be placed on a pedestal. Success is neither impossible nor assured. It is just another part of the creative process, that ongoing cycle of failure to success to failure to success (with tons of hard work in between).

Finding success with a new piece of art is like running into a celebrity in an elevator. You want to jump up and down and scream “Omigod omigod omigod it’s YOU!” But you can’t. You can’t be that crazy fan — success will just roll its eyes, mumble an excuse and get as far away from you as possible. Instead, you have to play it cool. Just give a small smile and a nod (“‘sup”). Let that success know you recognize it and appreciate it, but that you’re also willing to give it its space. You want success to be comfortable around you, and glad to visit.
