Doctor, my eyes

There’s always a lot of talk in the digital photography world about calibration — making sure that what you see in your camera looks the same on screen and on paper. Although we try to get as close as possible, it’s pretty much a futile exercise since all three modes handle light and color differently. I never quite realized how futile it was until I made an interesting observation — my own eyes are calibrated to different color temperatures.

The left eye sees the world cooler, and the right sees it warmer. Personally, I think it’s kind of fun, like having my own built-in 81A filter. But it kind of puts the whole quest for “accurate color” into a new light.
