artifacts of nature

I create abstract, dream-like photographs out of the simple artifacts of nature, such as fallen leaves, broken sticks, and dried seeds. I'm drawn to the obscure beauty that can be found within these humble and overlooked objects: the fallen, broken and decayed bits of nature that you normally just trod underfoot. Their organic complexity provides me with a rich palette of patterns and textures to work with. By showing these common objects from unexpected perspectives, I create abstract images that feel strange, mysterious, and yet vaguely familiar. As people's minds instinctive try to resolve them into recognizable subjects, the organic origins of the images nudge them in unexpected directions. In the beautiful decay of these dead things, people discover familiar characters and stories.
